I create this exploration that pairs up with a Desmos activity to give students the opportunity to discover the rules of rotation on their own. The guided notes page walks them through an introduction to rotations in transformational geometry, allowing them to explore with sliders and open ended questions in Desmos. Students can see rotations happening, and they are challenged with investigating the coordinates of the preimage and image to see if they can discover any patterns. The notes page walks them through 90 degree rotations (both clockwise and counterclockwise), and a 180 degree rotation, and goes over the algebraic rules for 90, 180, and 270 degree rotations.
The back page of the notes challenges students to demonstrate their understanding. It could be used as a homework assignment, an exit ticket, or classroom practice following the investigation.
There is an answer key included.
After your purchase, please send me a message with your email address so that I can share with you the link to the Desmos activity.
