This is specifically a game intended to help students with the spelling of words with er, ir, ur. I have found that reading words with these sounds is not very difficult. But, spelling them is a different matter. Using this game helped my students develop the skill of being able to see if the word "looks right". Students will need a whiteboard and erasable marker so they can write the words all three ways and see which one is correct if they need to.
The file consists of:
Page 1 - Cover Sheet
Page 2 - Directions and Words Used in the Game
Page 3 - Gameboard
Page 4-9 - Word cards
Students take turns drawing a card. He/she decides if the missing letters are "ir", "ur", or "er". They can use their white board to write the words using each of the possibilities, if needed. Then the student moves to the next spot on the gameboard that matches the correct choice for the spelling of the word. The first student to reach the end of the gameboard is the winner.
