Invictus is a 2009 film directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman. Invictus, meaning undefeated in Latin, is a poem by William Ernest Henley. Mandela reflected often on this poem, using it as a source of inspiration during his 27 years in prison. This movie follows Mandela's time as the new leader of South Africa when he looked to reunite his country using rugby. This assignment includes the poem and questions for students to answer as they watch the film.
