This product has four map activities. Two worksheets will teach your students the location of the countries that border Iran and their capital cities and a map test will evaluate what your class has learned. This product comes with a map test on the Middle East too. There are six Internet activities included and an article from the NYT about the execution of a Shiite in Saudi Arabia that caused the Iranians to burn the Saudi Embassy in Iran in 2016. This article will help your students understand the relationship between Iran and Saudi Arabia a little better. This current event was taken from the NYT on January 4, 2016; but it will be current for many years because it contains important background information that can help your students understand the conflicts between Sunni Muslims and Shiite Muslims in the Middle East. This article comes with 25 comprehension questions that will help your class understand how complex relations are in this region of the world and reinforce comprehension skills at the same time. A worksheet is also included on “Understanding the Muslim Population in the Middle East”. This product can be used to enhance your study of this region or it can be used to encourage your students to bring in current events about Iran and the countries in this region. After your class knows the geography of this area, your students will be more motivated to learn additional information about this region of the world. Teaching current events and geography can strengthen comprehension skills and improve test scores by providing your students with more valuable background knowledge. Incorporate current events with map activities into your curriculum and turn out more informed citizens.
