Want something engaging AND interesting for your St. Patrick's day lessons? This product is for you my friend!
You will love this passage about the country of Ireland, PERFECT for your St. Patrick's day lesson theme. Much more than leprechauns and rainbows and perfect for grades 3-5! Students will be scaffolded through the close reading steps, which will help them SLOW DOWN and really think about the text as they are reading. There are text boxes provided for students to write in their thinking as they are reading as well. You have multiple options of how to use this in your classroom - either the whole passage to project on your Smartboard, or a copy with large margin areas for stop and jot or annotations - or you can scaffold and chunk the text.
Once students have finished the first two steps in the close reading process (step one: get the gist, step two: dig deeper with scaffolded chunking and text connections), they will then respond to the text using text-based evidence questions and higher order thinking questions. Finally, they will respond to the text using creative thinking skills and making a connection to the text as they imagine that they are an Irish student describing daily life in a writing prompt.
This product is appropriate for 3-5th grades (depending on your students - I currently use it with my third graders after previewing some of the vocabulary and reading together with my lower level students).
