Iron-on Transfer Instructions
Things you will need:
- a white cotton or poly/cotton blend t-shirt, tote bag or apron
- one sheet of 8.5”x11” iron transfer paper for WHITE/LIGHT FABRIC (may be found at craft stores, Walmart, Amazon.com - I like to use Lesley Riley’s TAP. Avery also has a good product)
- a household iron (NO STEAM)
- a smooth, hard, heat-resistant surface (ironing boards are NOT ideal)
- a pillowcase or parchment paper
- scissors

PRINT
I always do a test print on a plain white sheet of paper to be sure the image prints correctly (in reverse) and fits the intended space. I have included the image already in reverse since some printers don’t have that option easily available. Always print in
the highest possible quality your printer allows. *TIP: If the image is too large, you can set your printer to print “2 per page” and make the image half its size. Your printed image should be backwards.

TRIM
Cut out the design with a narrow margin around the image. Your transfer paper will be clear wherever there is no image printed, but it still looks better to trim it fairly closely. You don’t have to trim around every single letter, just look at the image as a whole and trim accordingly. Keep edges rounded to avoid lifting during ironing or washing.

SURFACE PREP
Be sure to iron the t-shirt (tote bag or apron) before you attempt to transfer the image.

You’re ready to transfer the image to your garment. At this point it is best to refer to the directions included with your specific paper as they all differ somewhat. In general, you will place the image face down on your shirt (or tote or apron) and apply the iron with NO STEAM, but please refer to your specific paper instructions. After applying, wash your shirt inside out on cold. It will soften with washes.

I hope you LOVE your new shirt! If you’re having any issues, or if you’re looking for a personalized design, please do not hesitate
