This is a simple, formative introduction to the concept of Irony. There are two assignments to be used as formative assessment of student understanding with a standards based rubric for self and teacher assessment. There is a suggestion of how to tie the lesson into current class reading as well. This lesson includes no references to 'Ironic,' the bane of my middle school sonic experience that I hope to never relive or force upon others. This lesson is simple, relatively fun and offers quite a few opportunities for quick, formative assessment.
