Verbs that do not follow standard English patterns are covered in this 24-card set. At the top of exercise, students are shown the present, past, present participle, and past participle verb forms for an irregular verb. There are 10 sentences for each irregular verb with the verbs missing. Students read each sentence, select the correct verb tense, and write the answers on their papers. After completing the 20 sentences, students get the answer key, check their work, and record it on their checklist.
Most students will be able to determine the correct choice for each sentence by applying knowledge of grammar acquired through years of use. If some students have English as a second language or are struggling due to weak grammar skills, then additional instruction may be needed on topics such as tenses or auxiliary verbs.
Double-sided cards have one verb with sentences on the front and another on the back. Single-sided pages have one verb with exercises on the top and another on the bottom. The double-sided format produces task cards that are 8.5 X 5.5 inches and saves paper and lamination (15 sheets vs. 28 sheets). The single-sided format can be used as black-line masters for worksheets. The fascinating facts and trivia on these cards make learning grammar more enjoyable.
