Simple, clear, short, and effective, this set provides great instruction and extra practice in irregular vowel combinations for beginning or struggling readers.

It is perfect for group or individualized instruction in decoding and spelling, and

ideal for summer tutoring, too.

Emphasis is placed on automatic reading of words in order to improve word recognition, phrasing, and rate, rather than on the meaning of words.

The repeated format within each cluster lesson encourages natural remembering of many irregular vowel combinations.

Exercises in all VOWEL TUTOR sets focus entirely on decoding, not meaning of words.

The English language is 95% regular, but beginning or struggling readers do not often realize this.

Since the brain remembers in patterns, these worksheets aid in remembering and retrieving these clusters in words.

Word recognition skills become much more automatic--without learning too many phonics rules.

That is the beauty of the VOWEL TUTOR worksheets.

This system is especially effective for students who don't hear some sounds or learn phonics easily.

Each one of the 20 half-sheet lessons provides short, simple instruction, lessening content load for beginning or struggling readers.

Included in the packet are lessons for:

au-aw, oi-oy, ou-ou, oo-oo, ow-ow, ew, ea, ie, ei, single & double consonants+endings, 3 sounds for “ed” at the end of a word, and syllables

Recommended for beginning readers in Grade 2-4, or struggling readers functioning at these reading levels.

Prerequisite skills are consonant letters/sounds. Some knowledge of consonant blends, consonant digraphs, short and long vowels is recommended, but not entirely necessary.
