This is a brand new product that we are so excited to share with you. We have been working on this packet with our students and they absolutely love it and find it easy to relate to. WE are using the June 2018 ELA Regents Argumentative Essay topic of Graffiti to introduce a variety of strategies within one packet. The students have all seen Graffiti around their neighborhoods and community and can easily relate to the topic without require too much background knowledge.
This 45 page packet focuses on skills that target pre-reading, oral language, note taking, annotating, inferential thinking, and analyzing evidence. We are also including an extremely thorough lesson plan. This lesson plan is broken down into sessions that correlate by page numbers with the packet. This helps the teachers/providers to stay organized and prepared each and everyday. Under each session we provide an aim, differentiated learning, and mini lessons that directly relate to a given strategy. We provide ample opportunities, within a new strategy, for group work, guided practice, and independent work. We have also included evidence based research, goals, and common core state standards. We are always taking your feedback to try and enhance our products to best fit everyones needs!
We do not provide the actual regents levels reading passages but provide links as to where you can find the different texts that we refer to throughout the packet.
This packet could take months for your students to complete. We really focused this time on ensuring their is differentiation, as this is important especially when we make groups that vary in abilities.
This packet goes along nicely with the different posters that target different strategies. All of the strategies below are introduced in this packet.
When we had the students reading a variety of texts we utilized the Supplemental Vocabulary Strategies Packet. This packet provides a quick review of context clues and structural analysis. It also provides you with 30 word slots for unfamiliar/unknown words. The purpose of this graphic organizer is to focus the students attention on trying to define the vocabulary words without the use of a dictionary as it would be on a standardized exam.
The eventual goal of this packet is to get the students to write an argumentative essay. Be on the lookout as a packet that targets that will be posted in the future. In the mean time you can use the Common Core English Regents Argumentative Essay Outline that we have posted and is not specific to a certain topic.
As always, please remember to provide constructive feedback and to read the description above thoroughly to ensure this product fits your needs! Thank you so much for supporting our store!
