This ocean-themed card game for sums of ten addresses Core Curriculum standards K.OA.3, K.OA.4, and 1.OA.6. Each of the 31 cards has two addends with a sum of nine, ten, or eleven. Players take turns adding the numbers on a card. If the answer is ten,
the player keeps the card. If not, he or she discards it. The first player to get five cards wins. It's an easy to prepare math center activity that will help your students to quickly gain the essential skill of recognizing addends that total ten.
Also included is a student recording sheet that has students writing number models for ten and illustrating the models on ten frames.
