In elementary school, students sometimes have a hard time deciding what's important enough to interrupt small group instruction. I want my students to alert me of urgent situations, but I also want my small group instruction and center time to run smoothly and with few distractions. We review the "B" rule at the beginning of the school year. This small poster and my asking, "Is this a 'B' rule?" keep interruptions to a minimum. Sometimes I only need to point to the poster. Students know less urgent situations will be handled as soon as possible.
