F.IF.7a Graph linear and quadratic functions and show intercepts, maxima, and minima
This is a complete lesson which includes a warm up, an activity, a closure, a formative assessment, and a homework assignment.
The group activity should be assigned before students have studied key features of quadratic functions (x and y-intercepts, symmetrical aspects of a parabola, domain & range and minimum and maximum points). This is an investigative assignment that will allow students to explore the quadratic function. Also, students should be fluent enough using the graphing calculator to graph a quadratic equation and set the window. Use of graphing technology would be appropriate way to complete the “How Can You Find Out?” portion of the activity. Students should have some knowledge of functions, intercepts (zeros), max, min, and domain.
