I am very pleased to introduce Isaiah's Short Story Reading Series. The key to inspire and help students become proficient and avid readers is exposing students to quality stories and interactive instruction that challenge their thinking and encourage learning. Isaiah's Short Story Reading Series does that and so much more.
This reading series includes three realistic fiction short stories: Isaiah Brings a Soldier Home, The Bully Friend, and The Robotic Leg. Also, for each story, I designed interactive reading comprehension worksheets, along with answer keys for your convenience. And a photo of my grandson, Isaiah, to laminate and hang on your classroom bulletin board.
To be successful with this dynamic reading series, read each story prior to your students and review all instruction and answer keys. In this way, you can approximate your time and plan how you will introduce each story. I highly suggest that you read at least one of the stories to your students to create discussion as you read through the content. This interactive method will allow you to directly observe and assess their levels of thinking and comprehension. And completing some worksheets with students will, also, provide you with real knowledge concerning reading comprehension performance, in terms of what skills they can apply independently. Since reading scores do not conclude a student's ability, this type of reading series is necessary.
These are some skills covered in Isaiah's Short Story Reading Series: vocabulary, context clues, inference, main idea, critical thinking, sequence, analyze, fact, opinion, and more.
Feel free to assign the stories in the order you prefer. Secret - my students enjoyed all three stories, but their favorite was The Bully Friend.
I wish you the best and hope that you and your students enjoy these three realistic fiction stories as much as we did.
