Fun project to end your novel study!
Students can work alone or with classmates to create a creative newspaper page to reflect what they've learned after reading the book!
Preview of what's included:
In this project you will produce a newspaper page related to the novel Island of the Blue Dolphins. You will include articles, headlines, and illustrations that relate to the book.
*Try to create it like a real newspaper! Give your newspaper a name (Ex: The Ghalasat Times) and include the weather, date, price, etc. Divide your newspaper page into appropriate spaces.
You MUST include these components:
a. A headline and news article that provides a summary of the novel
b. An illustration that goes along with your headline story
Choose at least 3 of the following components:
a. a letter to an advice columnist about a problem one of the main characters had and a reply giving advice to that character
b. a letter to the author in which you state your opinion of the book (what you liked, what you didn’t like) and ask questions the book may have raised in your mind.
c. an advertisement for an object that was featured in the novel (ex: trinkets, bows and arrows, etc.)
d. a written preview of a possible sequel
