If you're looking for a way to truly engage your students in learning, there's no better way to do it than with a song! This product is a fun, creative way to teach your students about situational irony by analyzing whether or not the lyrics of Alanis Morissette's hit song "Ironic" actually contain any irony at all. Once the students determine if the lyric is or is not ironic, they then have to explain why or why not. If the lyrics are not ironic, then the students are asked to add a line to the lyrics that would make it ironic. This lesson could be used as a stand alone piece to teach the concept of irony, or be used as an introduction to the literary device before taking a closer look at irony in a specific piece of literature.
