This lesson builds oral vocabulary and phonemic awareness by isolating initial sounds and blending onsets and rimes (first letter and remaining word part). In 24 pages, the child will
• preview the letter sounds /g/ and /h/,
• preview six one-syllable words: girl, goat, gold, hat, hill, and house,
• identify a book about the letter sounds,
• blend and match onsets and rimes using picture blocks,
• isolate and identify initial sounds using letter blocks,
• distinguish between letters and words, and
• trace words with color-coded onsets and rimes.
The activities are aligned to the following standards:

RF.2.2c: Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllables in spoken words.
RF.2.2d: Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (CVC) words.

This prereading pack is the eighth lesson of Book 4
