Can an isopod like and dislike? What habitat will isopods prefer to live in? Your students will love working with the fun and friendly roly pollies in the classroom in this rigorous and engaging lesson exploring experimental design. Other than gaining valuable practice working with live animals, students will follow the scientific method from start to finish in this interactive lab. After generating a testable question and hypothesis, you will have the choice to have your students complete a card sort of procedures they will follow to conduct the investigation or they can write / come up with their own, it all depends on where your students are in their understanding of experimental design. Data collection and results involves making a table and constructing a bar graph in order to help them draw conclusions of their investigation. This will take two 40 minute class periods to complete from start to finish, or about 65 minutes in total if you teach a block.
