This is a comprehensive treatment of the conflict between Israel and its neighbors. However, IT IS LESS COMPREHENSIVE THAN MY OTHER PRODUCT ON THIS TOPIC: CONFLICT BETWEEN ISRAEL AND ITS NEIGHBORS - ADVANCED. It includes less slides (135). On a third of the slides there is important information that would correspond with the notes packet. Two-thirds of the slides include photos, editorial cartoons, graphs, charts and maps for student analysis. There are 14 sides of guided notes which frequently go in further depth than the corresponding slide. You can manipulate the notes so as to require your students to take a lot more of their own notes. You can also delete slides that you deem to not be essential.
When I teach this unit, I will create groups of 3. Each group has a Palestinian representative, an Israeli representative and an American representative. Then, after I review a certain amount of information leading to a controversial point, I’ll give the groups 7 minutes to share their viewpoints in character, for example on the UN Partition Plan of 1947.
When I get further into the unit, I’ll create groups of 6 (combining two of the groups). Each group will have a moderate and extremist Palestinian and a moderate and extremist Israeli, and two American reps.
The finale of the unit requires them to come up with a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace treaty. This can be done individually as well as in groups.
Note: there are 2 quizzes included in the power point which can serve as formative assessments.
