This product is a 3-page printable that sets up a built-in current events discussion in the classroom each week. Students choose a news story to present once per grading period.
Included are the instructions and requirements for Issues, the student summary sheet to be completed and turned in with the story on presentation day, and a student sign-up sheet for dates to present.
This activity is great for getting students to read, watch, or listen to news stories. This not only increases awareness of the world around them, but also helps them become more critical consumers of news and gives them information about real-world examples they can use in persuasive essays and academic discussions about wider issues.
This is a Word document that can be edited to match your grading periods. I am on 9-week grading periods, but this could easily be altered for 6-week grading periods, or changed so students only have to present once per semester. This is a very flexible product that can be used in any secondary classroom as is. I use it in high school English classes, but this could be integrated into many other subject areas.
