Social Stories are so amazing at teaching social skills!
Social Stories are perfect for reinforcing appropriate social skills in regular education students, students with autism, and students with ADHD. All of my social stories are written in “kid friendly language” and stories that I have personally used in my own classroom. The great thing about Social Stories is that you can use them in so many ways and I have included some suggestions on how to use them. I have included a page that talks about why you should use social stories in your classroom.
It is OK to Make Mistakes (A Social Story on how to deal with Making Mistakes) is a story that can help students understand that it is ok to make mistakes and teaches them how to appropriately deal with it. This story talks about the consequences of getting angry and losing control. This story explains the steps to dealing with making mistakes. First, the need to tell themselves that it’s ok to make mistakes. Second, they need to try over and over again. Finally, if they still don’t understand their mistake then, they can ask their teacher for help. If they follow these steps, then the students are able to learn from their mistakes and their teachers and parents will be proud! This story can best be used at the beginning of the school year and use respectively until the contents are understood and even later as a refresher.
If this seems like too much information for one Social Story, then I have also made a product where I split this story into 3 different social stories! This would be perfect for those students with lower comprehension skills! Check it out: It is OK to Make Mistakes (3 Parts, 3 Social Stories)
