Italian Renaissance Painters: Lippo Lippi is a short story about the life of Fra' Filippo Lippi (1406 – 1469). 'Fra' was used as a title equivalent to brother preceding the name of an Italian monk or friar. Also known as Lippo Lippi, he was an Italian painter in the 15th century, who at an early age was admitted to a community of Carmelite friars in Florence and eventually became one of the great artists who contributed to the Italian Renaissance. This account is part of a larger collection of stories by Amy Steedman called The Knights of Art, which itself is based on an earlier work by Giorgio Vasari titled The Lives of the Painters.
The story about Lippo Lippi has been edited for the classroom and includes interesting anecdotes that bring this Italian Renaissance painter to life, along with an example of one of the works for which he is famous.
