Italian Renaissance Painters: Michelangelo is a short story about the life of Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (1475 – 1564), considered to be one of the greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance and of all time. Known simply as Michelangelo he, like his fellow Italian Leonardo da Vinci, possessed tremendous talent in many areas as sculptor, painter, architect, poet, and engineer. This account of his life is part of a larger collection of stories by Amy Steedman called The Knights of Art, which itself is based on an earlier work by Giorgio Vasari titled The Lives of the Painters.
The story about Michelangelo has been edited for the classroom and includes interesting anecdotes that bring this Italian Renaissance painter to life, and the painting titled Creation of Adam, one of nine panels on the Sistine Chapel ceiling for which he is famous.
