Italian Renaissance Painters: Pietro Perugino is a short story about the life of Pietro Vannucci (1446 – 1524), one of many great artists who contributed to the Italian Renaissance. He likely began to study painting in Perugia, the chief city of Umbria in Italy, hence the name Perugino. It is also believed he apprenticed alongside other leading artists, including Leonardo da Vinci. This account of his life is part of a larger collection of stories by Amy Steedman called The Knights of Art, which itself is based on an earlier work by Giorgio Vasari titled The Lives of the Painters.
The story about Pietro Perugino has been edited for the classroom and includes interesting anecdotes that bring this Italian Renaissance painter to life, along with an example of one of the works for which he is famous.
