Italian Renaissance Painters: Sandro Botticelli is a short story about the life of Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi (1446 – 1510). Better known as Sandro Botticelli, he was one of the great Italian painters of the early Renaissance, who prospered under the patronage of Lorenzo de' Medici. Botticelli’s best known works include The Birth of Venus and Primavera. This account of his life is part of a larger collection of stories by Amy Steedman called The Knights of Art, which itself is based on an earlier work by Giorgio Vasari titled The Lives of the Painters.
The story about Sandro Botticelli has been edited for the classroom and includes interesting anecdotes that bring this Italian Renaissance painter to life, along with the painting The Birth of Venus for which he is famous.
