Italian Renaissance Painters: Tintoretto is a short story about the life of Jacopo Comin (1518 -1594), one in a series of great artists who contributed to the Italian Renaissance. Born in Venice as the eldest son of a dyer, or tintore, he got the nickname Tintoretto (little dyer or dyer’s boy). For his extraordinary energy in painting he was called 'the furious painter' (Il Furioso). This account of his life is part of a larger collection of stories by Amy Steedman called The Knights of Art, which itself is based on an earlier work by Giorgio Vasari titled The Lives of the Painters.
The story about Tintoretto has been edited for the classroom and includes interesting anecdotes that bring this Italian Renaissance painter to life, along with an example of one of the works for which he is famous.
