Italian Travel Information Gap Activity: In this speaking activity, separate the students into pairs and give one student in each group the student 1 worksheet for the client (attached) and the other student the student 2 worksheet for the travel agent (attached). Explain that one student is the travel agent and one student is the client, but each has a different task on their worksheet (an information-gap activity). Student 1 must use the pictures about the Italian cities and their knowledge of activities to ask the agent questions about traveling to each city. Student 2 must use the weather map to let the client know whether or not the weather will suit their desires and fill out an information form with the client’s requests.
An optional guided practice activity: Once the students have had enough time to share ideas and complete their tasks, require each pair to compose a dialogue of 5 lines per person summarizing what went on during their interaction. The dialogues can be performed for a speaking assessment and/or a written assessment.
