NOTE: This is a presentation put together to present to other teachers at staff developments and professional learning communities.
Is your school in need of improvement in regards to item writing?
Are teachers struggling to create rigorous multiple choice questions that will prepare students for state assessments?
Do you want to train teachers without boring them to death on such a cut-and-dry subject?
This presentation covers the basic of item writing, including what words to avoid, bias/sensitivity, rationales, and examples. A writing item activity is incorporated into the presentation so teachers can put what they have garnered throughout the presentation into use. I have spent time working with Questar in Passage Reviews and Item Writing, as well as Standard Setting. I have taken skills I learned there in order to create a quality product for administrators and teacher-leaders to use for their professional learning communities.
In contrast to your typical "death by PowerPoint" professional developments, this PD has cooperative learning activities embedded throughout. (Placemat Consensus; Quiz-Quiz-Trade; Stand-up, Hand-up, Pair-up, etc). Teamwork and team-building questions are incorporated throughout the presentation so that teachers are engaged in the professional development rather than being passive constituents.
