This 9 page document accompanies the literature selection _It's Back to School We Go! First Day Stories from Around the World_.
The document features 6 pages for students to take notes one each child featured in the book (clothing/food; school subjects activities; common activities for children; other interesting facts; my reflections & questions).
Then, there is a garden plot graphic organizer for students to highlight the most significant or interesting facts, all on one page.
Then, there is a Venn Diagram for students to compare and contrast their own culture's traditional first day with one of the ones in the book. A second Venn Diagram follows for a three-way compare and contrast. The inclusion of two different Venn Diagrams allows you to differentiate for your students.
As a teacher, I probably would not use ALL the graphic organizers in the same lesson, but including the notes pages, garden plot organizer, and two different levels of Venn diagrams allows you to choose what is best for your students.
