This is an activity designed for third, fourth, and fifth grade students who are part of a Gifted/Talented program. This activity is part of the program's goal to help students develop solutions for the problems in the world around them.
Students are provided with information about a fictional family in need of help at Christmas. Students act as members of a local charity who have $1,000 to spend on the family at Christmas. Students are encouraged to think beyond toys and electronics and focus on the things that the family will need beyond Christmas.
This activity is "pass out ready." Print out the three pages and provide a set to each student. They will need a computer to have access to Amazon.com in order to shop for the gifts they'll give.
This activity is presented in a Word Document, so you may edit as necessary. If you would like to provide students with a different budget, or have them shop on a different website or use a print source, that is easily changed.
