It’s Easter time! A shadow matching Game provides children the opportunity to practice and master the concepts of objects and their shadow. They develop their reasoning, comparison, and visual discrimination skills by matching a full color picture to its all black shadow. To do so children have to focus on the outline of the objects and its shape in order to find the colored match. This skill they practice is very important and essential as they will need it in identifying letters, numbers and shapes later on.
The activity is intended for preschool but it can be used with older children as well according to individual needs. It fits perfectly in a Montessori classroom and can also be used by Special Education and homeschooling.
The activity consists of 3 printables of 2x3 table of 6 shadow pictures and 3 printables of 2x3 table of 6 matching colored pictures for you to cut out.
After you print everything you can laminate the 3 printables with the shadows for durability and then cut and laminate the 18 colored cards.
A background image is also provided for printing the reverse side of the
3 printables with the colored pictures.
Children can then match the colored pictures to their shadow.
They can also play a three groups game. Pile the colored cards and turn them upside down in the center. Each group gets a card with 6 shadows and then by taking turns they pick up a colored card from the pile. If the card they picked matches a shadow they have on their shadows card they put it on top of it. If not, they turn it upside down and place it at the bottom of the pile in the center. The first group to cover all their shadows on their card is the winner!
