This activity allows students to explore and research an element from the periodic table and demonstrate their knowledge through creating a poster. This is a higher order thinking activity ("Creating" on the New Bloom's Taxonomy) that allows students to synthesize the information they have learned from research into a new product. A list of websites suitable for research and lesson enhancement is provided. Students will choose a specific genre of a poster to create, choosing from five options. A rubric will be utilized by the students and teacher as a guideline for creation and grading. To address Common Core speaking and listening skills, a presentation rubric is also included as an option to allow students to practice oral presentation as they present their finished product to the class. This activity is easily adaptable for elementary through high school students. A poster template for each genre is included for younger students or to serve as an example of how to assimilate the research into a poster format.
