Product Description
Even older students love centers and working in small groups! That's why I've created these 5 fall-themed literacy centers that cover common core skills for 4th and 5th grade.

The following literacy skills are covered:

1) Poetry - Students work on their fluency skills with these 8 fall-themed poems. Students use a poetry spinner to discuss the Author's Purpose, Main Idea, and Tone/Mood of each poem {CCSS: RF4.4b ; RF5.4b}

2) Idioms - Students determine the meaning of 15 common idioms using a fun candy-corn game called "What's it Mean?" A recording sheet is provided for students to complete. {CCSS: L.4.5b ; L.5.5b}

3) Determining Types of Questions (Author and Me, Think and Search, On My Own, and Right There) - Students read the book "One Green Apple" by Eve Bunting, a perfect fall-themed book, and then use a game board and question cards to practice identifying the different types of questions there are. Students read and answer questions about the book. A recording sheet is provided for students to complete. {CCSS: RL.4.1 ; RL.5.1}

4) Root-Words - Students practice identifying common roots found in 4th and 5th grade vocabulary words by playing the game "Root Hoot!" Students also use the dictionary to help them determine the meaning of unknown words. A recording sheet is provided. {CCSS: RF.4.3a, L,4.4c ; RF.5.3a, L.5.4c}

5) Syllables - Students play a fast-paced game called "Syllable Hay Ride" where the students determine how many syllables are in several 4th and 5th grade vocabulary words using a game board and syllable cards. A recording sheet is provided. {CCSS: RF.4.3a, L,4.4c ; RF.5.3a, L.5.4c}
