I designed this product for use in my own classroom on our “It’s Fall Y’all” theme day. It was such a hit! The boys and girls dressed in their western duds and we made homemade applesauce and learned AND reviewed several Language-Arts concepts.
My students really had fun making their folders and enjoyed this interactive learning opportunity. They also loved sharing their “Wanted” stories about their missing horse. They were so proud to take their folders home to their families.
I love this product for two reasons: it introduces many concepts that we’ll revisit later in the year and it’s simple enough for most students to complete with a high level of independence.
I have included both the printable applesauce recipe and the related sequencing activity my students completed. It gave me a chance to introduce procedural writing. Both items are print-and-go, you’ll just need to cut apart the sequencing activity. There is no charge for these two bonus items.
This file-folder activity addresses the following concepts and includes practice opportunities:
• comparing items using a Venn Diagram
• adjectives and nouns
• compound words
The file-folder activities include both Canadian and American spellings. The bonus recipe is in imperial units.
The back page of the file-folder activity is a fun board game for students to play with partner using a paper-clip and a pencil.
This product might also be suitable for a higher-level second grade class.
