Laminate and cut out the picture and letter cards for use in your pocket chart. Place the pictures in randomly with the beginning letter card behind it. This can be used in large group, by having children state the object name and the beginning letter they hear. They can check it by removing the picture to see if the named letter is behind it. For those that can handle it, it can be used during literacy centers as well. You will find a worksheet that accompanies this activity for use as follow up to assess beginning sound understanding. One is done in color for you to print and laminate for repeated use from year to year, or a black and white for producing for a group or class.
Items are: mouse, hay bale, apple, basket, sunflower, scarecrow (I’ve included an s and sc card), pumpkin, acorn, corn, leaf.
