This is the first of my series of interactive books made for toddlers.
The population of children who I work with fall into one of three categories:
1) Never seen a book before
2) Does not show any interest in books
3) Finds books too hard to read or understand
"It's Lunch Time" is the first book that I introduce to my clients, from 2 years up to 7 years of age. The simple, repetitive structure of each page makes it easy for them to predict what is coming next, and provides structured routine to those who are nervous about reading books.
The repetitive sentence structure "I want __ please" is familiar to the children from "real life". It is also functional for them to read aloud and learn to request verbally "in real life". It makes it easier for children to predict what they are reading before they can even recognise letters of the alphabet.
This book is a great way to introduce children to this series of interactive books. The interactive nature allows even non-verbal children to participate in a literacy activity. It gives a non-verbal option to the shy children who lack confidence or motivation to read.
