Making math fun and interactive is the best way, in my opinion, for helping the facts to stick. I have a reputation for always running out of glue sticks as a result! This printable, interactive geometry packet is a fun way to have the kids thinking about classifying 3 dimensional shapes, categorizing them accordingly and finding the surface area and volume of those polyhedrons. It meets the 5th grade math standards wonderfully and is thoroughly engaging for the kids.
I have used this with my 5th graders as a whole class activity and as small group work. This is the math part of my complete, trans-disciplinary “IB PYP Unit of inquiry into Space Exploration: the Past, Present and Future.”, which can be found in my stores.
You will find:
Review worksheets for area
Worksheets and task cards for finding volume
Activities for identifying and classifying polyhedrons
Crafts to create rocket ships using polyhedrons
There are a variety of worksheet activities for you to use as you see fit for your class. This allows for differentiation and rigor.
I hope your kids enjoy this as much as my kiddos did.
