Laminate and cut out the pumpkins for use in a pocket chart. Each letter of the alphabet is represented, vowels with the short vowel sound. Place the pictures randomly into a pocket chart and place the beginning letter behind each picture.
This can be played in a large group, by having the children state the object name and the first letter sound they hear. They can check it by removing the picture to see if the named letter is behind it. For those that can handle it, this can also be used in literacy centers as well.
You will find a worksheet that can be used for follow up/assessment. One is color that can be laminated or put in a plastic sleeve and reused or one that can be run in black and white for individual copies.
Items are: apple, balloon, candy can, deer, eggs, fish, grapes, hippo, kite, lion, mountain, nine, octopus, paperclip, quilt, rabbit, sun, turtle, umbrella, vacuum, watermelon, x-ray, yarn, zebra
