This is a lesson centered around Todd Parr's book "It's okay to be different." This is intended for K-3 students. Uses a flip book from readwritethink. Intended to be a 2 day 15-30 minute lesson. Includes 6 questions for discussion before the lesson, a few vocabulary words for students to use during the lesson, and step-by-step instructions on teaching the lesson.
Students will practice collaboration by working in small groups to generate ideas
and create books
Students will create a flip book using the materials given to them
Students will associate colors with emotional meaning (color/contrast)
Students will associate closeness with importance. (foregrounding and focus)
Students will associate object size with level of importance. (proportion)
Students will use oral and listening skills during shared readings of the books
