A reading guide worksheet to use with the legend of Itza and Popo, two volcanoes in Mexico. The sheet has three sections: before, during, and after reading. It first asks students to jot down ideas of what they think legends are, you can discuss this with your class. (legend elements) This is a great way to bridge cultural study, Spanish study, and Common Core elements. Students then brainstorm other tales they know of forbidden love. This is really great for classroom discussion, students will know many stories. You can talk about why this is a popular topic in society. Finally, students make predictions for the ending, based on their prior knowledge. You can take votes and discuss their predictions as well, this was very fun and when I used this lesson, I really enjoyed hearing my student's creative and funny ideas. During reading, students answer questions testing their use of the preterite tense, and finally there are a few questions for comprehension.
