Product Description
This lesson combines tapping and counting rhythms with stop n go dancing if time permits.Rhythm is basic to music so its important to continually reinforce time and tapping every week.
In this exercise, the kids sit in a circle along with the teacher on the floor crisscross applesauce. They can use their hands to tap the rhythm 1 and 2 on their knees while they count out loud.
After a minute or two of just tapping and counting, add a song to tap to beginning with, Tie My shoe, up to 10 and repeat. Next song, This Ole Man for a couple of verses and repeat. Finally practice the rhythm 1 and 2 with Twinkle, Twinkle. The teacher does the counting while the kids sing.
Lyrics can be found online. Then I like to end this lesson with movement. So I introduce stop and go dancing. Have the kids stand up in a circle. Then you the teacher begin to sing one of the songs while clapping while the kids walk and dance in a circle. Then stop singing which is a signal for the kids to freeze in place. The kids who continue to move are "out: and have to sit down. The kid(s) who are left are the winners and you may introduce a prize. You may want to repeat the stop n go dancing a few times to have different winners.
