This is a fun and easy experiment to do with your class! All you need is a bar of ivory soap and a microwave! Kids will be in awe and want to learn more!
Ivory soap is the only soap made with air pockets in it making it float but also expand when heated! Place the soap on a paper towel in the microwave and heat on high for two minutes. Right before your eyes, the soap will grow! The air pockets hold moisture which vaporizes when heated. This causes the soap to expand. After heating, let it cool a minute before touching. It is still good to use after expanding.
