The Iwo Jima graphing activity is an exercise for excelling students that combines coordinate graphing with art and history. Thematically versatile, this activity can be used in conjunction with Labor Day, Memorial Day, or any other patriotic unit.
This is a great activity for students who understand the basics of plotting points on a coordinate grid, can work independently, and are looking for a challenge. It can be used as seat work while you help other students or as a take-home assignment.
Part of the intrigue is the mystery: see if your students can graph the monument without knowing their final goal!
