Product Description
My JFK, LBJ, and Cold War Bundle is perfect to cover the 1960s turbulent period. It includes movies, writing assignments, note-taking guides, paragraph sheet, and note guide to history channel.

The 1960's where a very turbulent period. America needed leaders who could react to enormous public pressure and meet the challenges of a nation moving towards a new modern era. Presidents Kennedy and Johnson had to deal with civil rights issues, the Cold War, the Vietnam and the social upheaval of the turbulent sixties.

This LBJ and JFK Cold War Bundle includes:

- 13 Days video times
- LBJ VS. JFK Writing Assignment
- Superpowers Story of US guide
- Crash Course Video Guide

1. 13 Days Movie:

STEP 1: I start the Cuban Missile Crisis using the Stanford Lesson materials, which are free.

STEP 2: I then go through the different people involved in the US side of things to make sure the students understand what we will be seeing over the course of the period. (PPT that is included in the 13 Days materials)

STEP 3: Pass out the worksheet that goes with the movie and begin to explain what you want the students to do during the movie. The movie guide is 3 pieces of paper and takes 10-15 minutes to go through to make sure the students understand what to do.

STEP 4: I will then begin showing the 13 Days in class making sure the students know just how close to WWIII we came. (Day 2/3)

2. Writing Assignment: This is a 1-page direction sheet for this in-class writing assignment. It should take 3 days in class and 1 night of typing the final draft.

2B. Note Taking Guides: There are 4 pages of note-taking guides with this bundle. I have one for the book, one for the sources on JFK and LBJ, and one for the History Channel video.

2C. Paragraph Sheet: My paragraph sheet makes writing easy while the students write one paragraph comparing LBJ and JFK in addition to contrasting LBJ and JFK using their notes. Included in this is a sheet to make this easy.

2D. History Channel note guide / link: As an extension I also show the History Channel President videos for each of the presidents. ( JFK and LBJ) The videos are about 10 minutes in length each.

3. JFK VS LBJ Teaching: This is a 1 day unit on JFK and LBJ discussing what they did and how they dealt with things during their Presidencies. It is a 18 slide PPT which includes a note-taking sheet. (1 day)

4. Story of US Superpowers: Great review of everything that was covered in the teaching. The show was pulled off of youtube but is on Amazon Prime for free if you have that. (1 Day)

5. Crash Course Cold War Ep. 38:

Here is what is included in this 4 page download:

1. Note Taking Guide for Students: This is essentially a blank section to take notes in.

2. Summary of the Video: A place for the students to write a short summary of what they have watched.

3. Teacher Notes from the: My 1 page of notes.

4. Vocabulary Section: I have chosen 3 words that would be good to have the students look up. I also have them write each of the words in a sentence.

5. Quiz for students / with answers: There is a 7 question quiz with answers from the episode. It can be taken in class or taken home. I think in class would be better.

6. Blank Template for student created quiz: I decided to add this to every Crash Course guide as it works really well with students.

**Also, I highly recommend having the students watch this on .5 speed. If you click the wheel on the bottom of the youtube video you can adjust the speed.

5. BONUS: This is a great one day lesson on the Cuban Missile Crisis.

6. Cuba Interview: What was it like to live on the island of Cuba during the Cold War? This interview does a great job of describing the realities of that time.
