J.K. Rowling, Her Life and Times is designed as a multi-purpose informational reading and writing unit for upper elementary students. This resource is a good supplement to use as an introduction to or while teaching one of Rowling’s novels, but can also be used as a nonfiction reading resource.
Each of the three passages can be used alone (but in sequence): they could be assigned as the teacher wishes: in class over a couple of days or more, as homework, as independent projects, etc. The three texts are chronological:
Part 1 is titled “J.K. Rowling’s Childhood”, Part 2 “Jo as a Young Adult”, and Part 3 “J.K. Rowling, Author”.
Each text has a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion) as well as a page of vocabulary and language use work and a short creative writing assignment.
Also included is a short quiz that consists of six multiple-choice questions and one short answer question.
A complete answer key is included.
Please note that this resource concentrates on the life of Rowling before she became famous as a writer.
J.K. Rowling Her Life and Times is also part of a British Authors Bundle:
