This is another layout option with 4 boxes for Behavior, Daily Reading, Left & Right Brain Problem Solving, and Daily Physical Activity of the JOYrific Homework Form.

This form is a dynamic PDF that can be edited with homework assignments. The paper is then cut in half and inserted into the Homework Journal. The JOYrific Behavior section can be customized on each half of the sheet of paper to allow for specific students assignments. write your name "Jamie" three times or practice the letters J A M I E. This section is also used to practice JOYrific vocabulary assignments like find a "kind" face in your daily reading or ask your mom what a temper tantrum looks like. etc...

The JOYrific Homework Journal is a powerful tool for classroom communication and will be a good way to review past work and map progress and improvements over the school year. There is a checklist at the beginning of each new week, which includes behavior, brain, books and body activities focusing on strengthening the whole child.

The "behavior" work to be done each week will coordinate with the vocabulary on the JOYrific chart. There will be guided practice activities that will help develop understanding and communication.

The “brain” work to be done each week will include fine motor and problem solving skills often utilizing pencil and crayons in the journal. Do not become frustrated if your child is having difficulties forming letters, numbers, and words. It will come. Compliment them and encourage them for trying! Left-brain development comes with linguistic and linear learning including letter and word formations (using a pencil with eraser). Right-brain development comes with colorful, emotional, nonverbal, autobiographical experiences including drawing pictures, expressing emotions, and creating stories (using color crayons or color pencils, try and avoid markers that bleed through multiple pages).

Please read to your child, everyday, it's so very important. They will build fond memories snuggling up with you!
More importantly daily reading out loud to your child will help immensely in their development of phonological awareness: A child's ability to hear and manipulate the sounds within words including syllables, rhyming, blending and segmenting. Daily reading with you will help them eventually become great readers themselves. To help children learn to love to read, choose developmentally appropriate books with a variety of picture books—true stories, funny stories, mysteries, and tales about everyday objects and activities. Also include easy-reader books that children learn to “read” with you as you turn each page.

Finally, daily physical exercise. This can be accomplished quite easily, as children naturally exercise as they play. Scoot them outdoors and encourage movement: hopscotch, playing catch, swinging, bike riding, game of tag, jumping on the trampoline, swimming, sports practices, etc.
