Need help getting your students to remember the preterite irregular verbs and spelling changes? Use this fun and easy acronym to help your students retain the different categories of verbs in the complicated preterite tense. When my students mastered this acronym, I felt like I didn't need to constantly re-teach the material! This 18-page packet contains notes and practice worksheets for each category of preterite irregulars and spelling-changers. The acronym is:
J - Verbs that have j stems (decir, traer, introducir, etc...)
U - Verbs with u stems (poder, poner, tener, estar, etc...)
I - Verbs with i stems (querer, venir, hacer)
C - "Los cambios" - Verbs with spelling changes. These include a page of notes on eacy type: car/gar/zar verbs, i to y spelling changes, "sandal verbs" (verbs with a 3rd person spelling chang)
Y - And... the other irregulars: the "twins" ir/ser, the "cousins" dar/ver
The packet contains a chart with all of the categories, a sheet explaining each category with examples of verbs, and a worksheet practicing each category. There is also the words to a song at the end (La historia de Juan by Juanes) that practices several "JUICY" verbs.
