"THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PROVIDING SUCH AN INVENTIVE WAY TO REINFORCE GRAMMAR CONCEPTS." - TPT customer -
I use Lewis Carroll's classic poem "Jabberwocky" to urge students to listen to their innate understanding of grammar and parts of speech. By identifying the part of speech of a nonsense word, students gain confidence in their ability to understand how language works.
This document (PDF; answer key included as a separate PDF) begins with nonsense words found in regular sentences. Students identify the function or part of speech and replace the nonsense word with a legitimate word.
Then students read Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky" and interact with the nonsense words in the classic poem.
It is great fun for students and teachers alike.
