Story Comparisons Charts Compare different versions of "Jack and the Beanstalk." Use the chart as a graphic organizer to compare the story elements of the stories.

“Jack and the Beanstalk” Small Group Read-Aloud Use in a small group setting to support students with decoding and comprehension strategies.

“Jack and the Beanstalk” My Own Version Students write their own version of the folktale.

Favorite “Jack and the Beanstalk” Story (Opinion Writing #1) -Students use the writing process (brainstorm, draft, edit, revise and produce a final copy) to write an opinion paper about their favorite version of “Jack and the Beanstalk”. It includes a self-assessment checklist. Have students work independently or use it in a guided writing lesson with developing writers.

“Jack and the Beanstalk”- In My Opinion... (Opinion Writing #2) - Students use the writing process to write an opinion paper about Jack’s choices.

Living and Non-Living Things Posters, Object Cards, and Work Sheet Use this set to discuss seven characteristics of living things. There are two versions: everyday objects and objects from Jack and the Beanstalk.

What Plants Need to Live Conduct a class experiment discovering what plants need in order to live. Cards showing sun, air, water & soil and no sun, no air, no water, no soil, are used to label plants. An observation log and poster is included in this set, as well as color cards and black and white cards.

The Parts of a Flower Posters and Worksheets Discuss the parts of a flower and then have students complete the worksheet.

Coffee Filter Flowers Craftivity Create colorful coffee filter flowers, and label the parts of the plant.

Plant Life Cycle Teach the plant life cycle with this poster and worksheet set.

This is How My Garden Grows Booklet Use this little reader in a small group to reinforce decoding, comprehension, and fluency strategies.

Grow a Bean Plant Students follow directions to plant a lima bean and then observe the life cycle of a bean plant.

Plant Journal Students record their observations of their growing bean plant.

Jack and the Beanstalk Measurement Center Students use beans to measure inches and a beanstalk to measure feet! This center will review measuring with standard and non-standard units of measurement.

These lessons are based on Common Core Standards for 1st grade, but work very well for kindergarten and 2nd grade, as well. Its the perfect unit for a homeschooling families!
