This is a small group reader's theater is for 3 - 5 students. Some parts are smaller and can be combined. This is the story of Jack and the beanstalk. In the script, Jack and his mom are very poor and have to sell the family cow. When Jack goes to do this, he meets a man who tells him that he will trade him the cow for 5 magic beans. Jack agrees and takes the beans to mom. His mother gets very angry and throws the beans out the window. In the morning they find a large beanstalk. Jack climbs up it and finds a castle and a giant. The giant has a hen that lays eggs of gold and a golden harp that sings. When the giant falls asleep, Jack takes the hen and the harp and runs. The giant wakes up and chases him. Jack and his mom cut down the beanstalk and it and the giant crash to the ground. Jack and his mom live happily ever after. There are is a writing prompt for the students to do at the bottom of the last page. This script and some others are on a 2nd grade reading level. I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily and do not waste ink. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice and you get less off task behaviors. My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. If you like this script and would like more fairy tale related scripts or need some more 2nd grade level scripts just check at my store. Please let me know how things go!
